Methodology

  • Source: the public menus (web pages and PDFs) published on their own websites by independent restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars found in OpenStreetMap. Chains and delivery platforms are excluded.
  • 115 menus with readable prices analysed in this city (we publish a city from 15).
  • Each menu contributes one value per item (the median of that item on that menu), so a place with ten burgers does not count ten times.
  • Outliers are removed with the 1.5×IQR rule, then we report the median and the middle half (25th–75th percentile). An item needs at least 5 menus to be shown.
  • Limits: menus can be out of date, prices are in local currency and include whatever the menu includes (tax, service as printed). It is a sample of places with a website, not every place in the city.
